The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) has announced its final determination relating to the Divisional boundaries within the Bundaberg Regional Council (BRC) area.
In accordance with the legislation, each Division must contain a quota of enrolled electors which is within + or – 10% of other Divisions within the electoral area. At its last review, the ECQ identified that the average quota was 6,423 per Division.
The review also identified that the number of electors within Division 5 has escalated to 7,391 which is 15.07% above the average quota whilst Division 4 has fallen to 5,469 or by 14.99%. As a result, a realignment of the electoral boundaries is required before the March 2016 elections.
To bring Division 5 back within quota the ECQ has determined that the townships of Coral Cove & Innes Park will now be excised to form part of Division 6 which will cause a ‘rippling’ effect on other Divisions towards the City as each is systematically adjusted to absorb the changes and to meet their quota. Similarly, adjustments will be made to Division 4 and its neighbouring Divisions.
Division 5 will retain all existing boundaries north of Poinciana Drive at Innes Park North but all areas south of that will go to Division 6. Effectively, Division 5 will extend from Neilson Park in the north to Poinciana Drive in the south with the centreline of Hughes Road (including the proposed Hughes Road Extension) and an extending small portion of Back Windermere Road forming the western boundary.
