FANTASTIC NEWS – HUGHES ROAD EXTENSION TO WEARING ROAD READY TO COMMENCE

This is fantastic news!

The next stage of the Hughes Road Extension (HRE) is finally about to commence and will see the new Rifle Range Road roundabout joined to an intersection with Wearing Road as the overall construction of the HRE creeps northwards towards Watson’s Road. Naturally, this upcoming stage will directly benefit the residents of Palm Lake Resort, the Wilfred Street/Bargara Heights area and the estates along Moodies Road and should be completed by May/June this year.

Once completed, the overall project will provide a direct link between Elliott Heads and Burnett Heads, albeit that the gravel section of Back Windermere Road between Coral Cove and Elliott Heads will still need to be sealed and the long-term plan to utilise Seaview Road as a Bargara by-pass established. It will also raise the priority level to trigger the proposed raising of the Hughes Road causeway near the Child Care Centre to give it immunity from flood events.

Hughes Rd Ext Alignment - Adopted by Council

This link has been a priority project for me over many years as it provides numerous benefits for residents along the coast between the two rivers as well as stimulating further developments which will be enhanced by the Council’s commitment to provide sewerage along a similar route. It will certainly provide better links to facilities at Bargara from the southern townships.

Perhaps the main benefit though is that significant traffic will be taken off the foreshore road network including Miller Street, Woongarra Scenic Drive and the various Esplanades which was never designed to carry the volume of vehicles that it currently does.

The following Information Sheet will be distributed shortly to nearby residents however I thought that I’d provide a heads-up for everyone who will benefit from this project.
