EXCLUSION ZONE RESIDENTS UNABLE TO RETURN TO NORTH BUNDABERG TODAY

Some bad news I’m afraid for residents looking forward to returning to their homes in North Bundaberg today. This is a release from the Disaster Management Group…..

Disaster Management Co-ordinator, Superintendent Rowan Bond has overruled a plan by Bundaberg Regional Council to allow residents in the North Bundaberg exclusion zone to return briefly to their properties today.

Council had informed a meeting held today at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre and North Bundaberg High School that limited access to the site would be allowed today at 2pm.

However, Superintendent Bond said Urban Search & Rescue teams had not yet completed a safety audit of the site and the risk to residents was far too great to allow access at this point.

Superintendent Bond said it was unfortunate that the delay had been necessary but community safety was the major focus of the disaster recovery program.

Further information will be provided as it comes to hand.
