The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) have now declared the result of the Division 5 Poll which has re-elected me by a margin of 57 votes.
This was always going to be a very tight election and the result has certainly left me with no doubt that as your representative there are areas in which the Council needs to improve.
A lot of people including family, friends and complete strangers, have offered and provided their support over the last few weeks and to each and every one of you I would like to say a big ‘Thank You’.
To my wife Isobel, kids Chris & Susan and son-in-law Dirk my very special thanks for all the work that you put in during pre-polling and on polling day and for sharing the stress as the votes were counted.
I’m pleased to confirm that I was able to run my campaign as an individual and to fully fund it myself, however without the moral support of so many loyal supporters it would have been all but impossible.
During the campaign I made a number of commitments including ongoing attempts to make the new Council more transparent, accountable and in touch with the community. This includes getting rid of as much red tape, bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo and closed meetings as possible and getting back to basic face-to-face community representation. I re-commit to those goals and will be seeking the support of my colleagues and our new Mayor, Mal Forman to bring them to reality.
I’ll continue using this website to express my personal thoughts and opinions and to provide relevant updates. As usual, I welcome your feedback.
My thanks again to all who have supported Issy and me over the past four year term and throughout this latest campaign. It really is very much appreciated.
