COUNCIL URGES PUBLIC TURNOUT TO FAREWELL ADF PERSONNEL

Australian Defence Force personnel will mobilise out of Bundaberg tomorrow and Bundaberg Regional Council is asking the community to join in paying them a fond farewell.

Mayor, Cr. Mal Forman said the arrival of the ADF personnel in Bundaberg at the height of the floods had been a welcome and reassuring sight for many residents.

“Their skill, their organizational ability and their willingness to undertake any task requested of them certainly endeared them to everyone who came in contact with them,” said Cr. Forman.

“I also think it needs to be pointed out that many of the troops in these units from the 7th Brigade have seen active service in Afghanistan in the past 18 months.”

“Their final act of involvement in their flood relief work was the construction of a temporary repair of the Tallon Bridge to allow it to be opened to limited traffic use.”

Cr. Forman said the ADF personnel will undertake a drive-by of the Bourbong Street Council Administration Offices and Civic Centre tomorrow morning at 8.30.

“I urge as many Bundaberg residents as possible to come along and thank these men and women for what they have achieved in our community and return to them the respect they have shown us.”

The troops will depart from Salter Oval before proceeding into Barolin Strreet and finally into Bourbong Street.

Cr. Forman will provide Certificates of Appreciation to units of the departing ADF personnel.
