COUNCIL OFFERS FREE PERMITS TO ASSIST FLOOD VICTIMS

The focus of Bundaberg Regional Council is now firmly set on driving processes to ensure flood affected residents can obtain the services they need in the shortest timeframe possible.

Council’s Planning & Development portfolio spokesperson, Cr. Ross Sommerfeld said a single point of contact has now been established to assist flood affected residents answer building and development questions as they restore or replace flooded or damaged homes/premises.

“Council is focused on ensuring that residents have access to consistent, accurate and timely advice as they deal with flood damaged properties, particularly as it relates to building and planning information,” said Cr. Sommerfeld.

He said Planning Officer Merinda Grayson, a member of Councils Infrastructure and Planning Department, will be available as a primary point of contact for enquiries with a view to providing relevant information and to link residents to specialized technical officers.

Cr. Sommerfeld said Council also wishes to provide a fast and free service to flood affected residents who may wish to obtain a Temporary Occupancy permit to reside in safe temporary accommodation on their land whilst work is undertaken on a damaged residential dwelling.

Residents who are interested in this service are encouraged to contact Council’s Planning Officer Merinda Grayson to organize a time for Council to attend the land and complete the Temporary Occupancy permit criteria.

Ms. Grayson’s contact details are as follows merinda.grayson@bundaberg.qld.gov.au or 1300 883 699.
