COUNCIL EXTENDS RATES PAYMENT PERIOD

Ratepayers across the Bundaberg Region will be provided with an extended period of time in which to finalise their rate payments within the discount period.

At this week’s meeting of Council, Mayor, Cr. Mal Forman said ongoing issues relative to the recent tornadoes and floods would impact on many residents ability to meet their rates commitment.

Rates were scheduled to be issued on Monday, February 11 but Council resolved to delay the issue by two weeks.

“Importantly, and in recognition of the hardship situation that exists for many of our residents, Council has extended the payment period from one to three months,” said Cr. Forman.

“Discount will still apply during this extended period which will now see rates due on Friday, May 24.”

Cr. Forman said he was delighted the Council team had moved quickly to address the issues of rates payment. “Council is required by law to issue these half-yearly notices but Council is acutely aware that many people may simply not have the resources at this stage to meet their commitment.”

Cr. Forman urged any resident who is unable to pay their rates due to the effects of natural disaster to contact Council on 1300 883 699 to discuss the matter and, if applicable, an application for rates relief will be supplied to them.
