Media Release – COUNCIL ANNOUNCES PREFERRED TENDERER FOR MULTIPURPOSE FACILITY

The Bundaberg Regional Council has announced Oasis Construction as the preferred tenderer for the construction of the Multipurpose Facility.

The contract is valued at $15.1 million and is inclusive of GST, it being noted that upon refund of GST the project will be delivered well within budget.

Mayor Mal Forman said the project would generate almost $10 million worth of subcontracting work and supply to local contractors.

“Included in the scope of works for the Multipurpose Facility is an area to accommodate the PCYC; a three court sports arena, gymnastics hall, weight and cardio exercise area, group fitness area and food preparation facilities. The scope of works also includes fire-fighting water storage and pumps, car parking and landscaping,” Mayor Forman said.

“Local suppliers and contractors are being sourced for a range of requirements including but not limited to civil works; concrete supply and labour; reinforcement supply; metal work; roofing works; joinery; painting; plumbing; and electrical works.”

“Work is set to begin at the Old Bundaberg Showgrounds site in early 2016. This is essential infrastructure for our region. As well as housing the PCYC and hosting a wide range of community events and functions, it will be used as a major evacuation centre during natural disasters.

“Earlier this week, Council welcomed the announcement that the Queensland Government would contribute $5 million towards the Multipurpose Facility under the Building our Regions program.

“We thank the Queensland Government for its contribution to critical regional infrastructure and its support for essential local government projects such as the Multipurpose Facility.”
