COMMUNITY CONSULTATION WORKS

This afternoon I set up a spontaneous Community Consultation Desk at Cafe Caprice in the Bargara Central Shopping Centre. Over 3 hours I enjoyed some fabulous coffee with great service and had the opportunity to answer several Council-related questions, hear a number of suggestions and receive some helpful feedback. I only copped one earbashing so I reckon I got off lightly!

Having a chat with Burnett Heads resident Pat Clark-Brumley

What was abundantly clear though is the fact that people like the opportunity to speak personally with their representatives so they can¬†better express an opinion or resolve an issue.¬† Unfortunately, since the 2008 amalgamations many Councillors don’t seem to get the opportunity to spend as much time amongst their constituents as they did previously.

With this in mind and given the success of today’s trial, I’m proposing to repeat it on a fairly regular basis and as often as time reasonably permits which is likely to be on the weekends due to weekday meeting commitments.
