A handful of non flood affected Bundaberg residents are utilizing Council’s flood cleanup program to get rid of piles of green waste.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Waste and Recycling portfolio spokesperson, Cr. Vince Habermann said it was disappointing to witness the opportunistic nature of some residents.
“These people who have not suffered flood damage are clearing their yards and leaving their trimmings by the side of the road for Council to collect,” he said.
“This type of activity takes our resources away from the people who need it most. While I can appreciate that some people may be under the misapprehension that this is a general cleanup, it does appear to be quite a selfish action by a few people,” said Cr. Habermann.
“Our waste removal trucks are working overtime to clear flood damaged waste in order that those residents directly affected by the flooding can clear their homes and their streets.”
“I would ask that everyone respect their right to receive priority attention,” said Cr. Habermann.
