Floodwaters may have subsided from streets within the Bundaberg business area but Council is requesting motorists observe a further 24 hours closure of Walla, Tantitha and Targo Streets.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesperson Cr. Tony Ricciardi said the road pavements were currently saturated from flood water immersion.
“There is a distinct possibility that if traffic movements commenced on those roads now we could experience significant pavement damage.”
Cr. Ricciardi appealed to motorists to be patient for an additional 24 hours to allow further drainage and drying of the pavement.
“Council appreciates the co-operation of the community to date and requests its patience just a little longer,” said Cr. Ricciardi.
Council workers will monitor the streets and barricades will be removed when the roads are deemed safe to traverse.
