I’ve finally got around to updating the data on my ‘About Division 5’ page with the latest statistics from the 2011 Census compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
With a significant influx of new residents to the region, I’m also compiling a database of local information which may be of interest to them as they settle in but which longer-term residents take for granted.
Part of this process has been the extraction of several blocks of Census statistics and putting them into a six page comparison spreadsheet to provide an overview of the respective populations of Bargara, Innes Park, Coral Cove, Burnett Heads & Elliott Heads and then benchmarking them against the corresponding figures for Bundaberg City, Queensland and Australia.
Being in separate sections of the ABS website makes it difficult to compare but having them side by side on the one spreadsheet makes it a lot easier. Whilst the actual numbers within the various categories are important, I find it best to focus of percentiles when making comparisons.
Most people find statistics to be quite boring however the ABS figures are well respected for their accuracy and it’s interesting to compare the various differences between demographic profiles, median incomes, rents, mortgage payments, employment details, dwelling information, etc.
