CAN YOU HELP BARGARA LITTLE ATHLETICS TO SERVE OUR YOUTH?

Bargara Little Athletics has been catering for many of the sporting needs of our local children for some 20 years and as such has been instrumental in assisting with both their physical and behavioural preparation for life.

As the Patron for the past 6 years I’m now very concerned that the running of the organisation has fallen to just a handful of dedicated volunteers with many of the former committee quite understandably stepping aside having donated their time over many years. To all concerned, I’m extremely grateful for your contribution to this invaluable service to our developing youth and you should be proud of your achievements.

The reality is however, that unless some additional members of the community step forward to fill the gap, the future of the organisation hangs in the balance. Being financially secure and providing such a valuable service, this would be devastating for the wider community but more so for the kids who simply want to get outside and participate in some healthy sporting activities while gaining some respite from those TV & computer screens.

The roles required to keep the organisation going are certainly not onerous and can be carried out by most members of the community whether they be young parents or those enjoying their retirement but looking for a proactive way to spend some time. What better way than to spend a little time with our youth to help them as they develop towards healthy young adults?

Many of the activities take place at Nielson Park’s unique ocean-side oval where the ‘Little As’ have their own well equipped premises for catering, storage and meetings. As I said above, their activities aren’t onerous and would suit a variety of people irrespective of their skill sets. Their events take place in a relaxed social atmosphere and are generally held over a few hours on a Sunday morning during the winter season only.

If you can spare a little time and want to get involved in your community then I’d urge you to call the Centre Manager, Heather Hinsbey on 0412 200 502. Please give her a call, even if it’s just to get a few more details.
