Accommodation situation update
Currently around 230 people remain in Evacuation Centres at Civic Centre and Old Agro Trend site where they will stay until other accommodation is available.
Construction of the 40 unit facility is currently underway at the old Showgrounds. This building, donated by mining giants Santos will be used to house Ergon and other trade related staff.
A 300 bed facility is also currently being sited at the Showgrounds and this will house evacuees and displaced persons. This facility is not expected to be operational for at least another 48 hours.
Damaged housing
The Urban Search & Rescue team assessed a total of 3670 flood damaged houses in Bundaberg during its inspection process.
38 houses have been rated as totally unliveable
356 houses have been listed as severely damaged
784 have experienced medium damage (floodwaters rising above power points).
North Bundaberg road situation
Heavier than expected traffic, mainly due to non essential sightseeing traffic, has caused part of the pavement of Hanbury Street to commence breaking up. Council staff will assess the road and further traffic interruptions or road closures may be required after 6pm to effect repairs to the pavement.
Council has again appealed to people not living in the North Bundaberg area to stay away as their travel is severely impacting on traffic flow.
