After receiving a number of complaints, the damaged roadway sections of Blain Street, between Hughes Road & Davidson Street, Bargara (predominantly on the northern side) are scheduled to be concrete-stabilised in August this year – weather permitting.
As part of the works, a concrete culvert will also be placed in the existing narrow open drain along the northern alignment from near the Fairway Drive intersection extending eastwards for a distance of about 80 metres to meet up with the wider open drain. The roadway will then be widened by approximately 1 metre before a new asphalt surface is applied to finish the job.
It’s obvious that many motorists prefer to use the Blain Street route betweeen Hughes Road and the Bargara Central/CBD area instead of the Hughes Road & Bargara Road intersection. As a result, the level of required maintenance has increased significantly over recent years and the ongoing ‘band-aid’ patching of pot holes simply isn’t keeping up with demand.
The timing of the proposed repairs and improved drainage will see the works completed before the onset of the wet season.
