Following several concerns from residents based on rumours circulating within the Beach Milieu area I’d like to provide some factual information regarding the alleged filling of the local lagoon and the impending works on roadside drains.
LAGOON
The are no plans to fill the Beach Milieu lagoon.
Council did consider an option to reclaim some of the edges of the lagoon to gain better access for maintenance purposes following resident’s complaints about the condition of it. Whilst this would have also provided more usable open parkland the option was taken off the table when the preliminary costs were calculated. In any event, residents can be assured that no such option would even be progressed without full community consultation.
My thanks to those who brought this to my attention.
ROADSIDE DRAINAGE
As previously reported here following ongoing complaints about still and stagnant water in roadside drains Council allocated funds in the current financial year to conduct works to re-grade the drains and install concrete inverts in the bottom of them to provide for a better flow to the lagoon. These works are proposed for a section of Masthead Drive followed by Atlantic Boulevard.
The work on Masthead Drive is schedule to commence in a couple of weeks and I’ve asked for a letterbox delivery to be issued to all affected property owners to advise them of the scope of works and the relevant timeframes. Once these works near completion, the timeframe for the Atlantis Boulevard works will be advised in a similar manner.
The subject (northern) section of Masthead Drive can be viewed by clicking here
We don’t usually release construction plans however there are two for the work that can be accessed through the following links so that residents know exactly what’s proposed:-
To access the first Construction Plan please click here
To access the second Construction Plan please click here
I also understand that Council staff have held discussions with several residents which may be impacted during these works and the on-site staff will be available to address any further concerns during the construction stage.
Hopefully this dispels many of the fears that have resulted from the rumours but I’m happy to take any further inquiries on 0488 539 123.
