BEACH MILIEU DRAINAGE WORKS SET TO COMMENCE

The proposed downstream drainage works to alleviate flooding issues at the Beach Milieu detention basin and the two entrances to the estate off Davidson Street are scheduled to commence within the next week.

The initial work will commence within the drainage easement across the golf course land from the Davidson Street culverts and unfortunately will require the removal of the row of trees on the western alignment of the easement. Council is currrently working with the Bargara Golf Club to acquire wider easements over the proposed upgraded outlet drain.

An existing stormwater pipe that currently lies beneath the bottom of the open drain will be removed and large box culverts will be installed under Davidson Street to replace the current inefficient pipes.

At a cost of approximately one million dollars, the work is expected to be completed by February 2013 however vehicular traffic diversions in Davidson Street should be over by early October. These are likely to be via Aquarius Drive, Masthead Drive & Atlantis Boulevard or alternatively, via Blain Street & Hughes Road.

I’m aware of the significant amount of pedestrian traffic that uses Davidson Street and have asked that a pedestrian pathway be maintained through the site during the works.

Once the job is completed, a separate pedestrian ‘bridge’ over the discharge drain will be included and will remedy the current issue of pedestrians being forced towards the busy roadway as they cross over the culverts.

I’ll post progress reports on this site as required.
