BARGARA CBD PARKING AUDIT

The issue of limited parking in the immediate proximity of the Bargara CBD & foreshore area has been a contentious issue for some time.

This weekend I conducted an unofficial audit of the most utilised parking spaces within easy access to attractions such as the Turtle Playground, beach, cafes, hotel, and other businesses which tend to attract most people to this area.

Obviously, most people want to park as close as possible to their desired attraction and especially if they’re carrying chairs, eskys, etc or with younger children. Having said that, there are also ‘overflow’ parking areas such as the foreshore land south of the Burkitt Street roundabout or to the north of Whalley Street however these are nowhere as handy or popular as the sites covered by this audit.

This is not a definitive study or one conducted on behalf of Council but rather one that I’ve undertaken to provide me with some factual data on what the parking constraints really are around the CBD. As it’s popularity grows, the issue of available parking will be a signifcant consideration.

The audit dosen’t predict the numbers of visitors on any particular day or the number of spaces utilised by staff from surrounding businesses however I think that most people would agree that the demand for CBD parking is more predominant on weekends when the recreational nature of the vicinity attracts the largest number of people.
