Council is in receipt of a Development Application (DA) for the establishment of a 20m high telecommunication monopole to be erected in the north western corner of the Bargara Lakes Tavern car park (as indicated by the yellow square).
The monopole will occupy an unused 77 sq m footprint and will be fitted with a turret on top which will have:

- panel antennas attached with a configuration of; three (3) sectors with two (2) panel antennas per sector (each 2.8 metres in length max) mounted above the pole;
- one (1) Optus prefabricated equipment shelter of pale eucalypt colour, with a floor area less than 7.5 square metres;
- One (1) microwave dish at 17 metres (from ground level) on the monopole
which will have a diameter of 1.2 metres; - Ancillary equipment associated with operation of the facility, including (but not limited to); cable trays, fifteen (15) Radio Remote Units (RRUs), cabling, safe access methods, bird proofing, earthing, electrical works by FSG Chicago for advance building control and air-conditioning equipment.
As part of the information provided, the applicant advises that “….Optus has identified a need for increased digital mobile telephone coverage and capacity improvements in the southern area of Bargara and in particular the area surrounding Bargara Lakes Tavern. Optus has an existing network which continues to require on-going investment to address improved coverage and capacity demands. As part of this program of works, Optus are seeking to improve voice and data capabilities in major regional and holiday centres such as Bargara. The southern area of Bargara suburb is currently experiencing high levels of customer usage. To achieve these objectives, the proposed facility is designed to accommodate both voice and data technologies which will relieve the congestion that the current network is experiencing and provide additional coverage and capacity in the southern area of Bargara and in particular the area surrounding Bargara Lakes Tavern.
