The Council owns approximately 2 acres of land on Bargara Road just west of Potters Road (pictured) which was originally purchased for water reservoirs. That particular project never went ahead and the land has been sitting idle ever since.
Council hasn’t formally identified any other use for the land which is strategically located on the main road into the coast’s largest township and immediately before the turn-off to the Mon Repos Turtle Hatchery. Whilst I have a couple of ideas rattling around in my mind, I’d be interested to hear from others without tainting the feedback with my thoughts (and no, it wouldn’t be big enough for a water park!).
The parcel is 8,207 sq. ms. and although it abuts a major stormwater channel along the western boundary, the land itself drains extremely well and I’m not aware of any significant flooding issues. The northern boundary is skirted by a cane railway line. Bargara Road is an arterial road controlled by the Department of Transport & Main Roads and whilst access onto the land would be possible, I suspect that it’s likely to be fairly restricted (deceleration/turnoff lane??). A water main runs along the Bargara Road frontage but sewerage is not available.
Please note that this is not a formal ‘expression of interest’ or survey from the Council but as this is (what I consider to be) a valuable community asset, I’d be interested to canvass some ideas from the wider community that I may be able to put to Council for consideration in the future.
