AIRSHOW COMES TO AN END

This is truly sad news for our region.

Today the Board of the Wide Bay Australia International Airshow announced that the biennial event will not proceed into the future. A copy of the Board’s Media Release can be viewed here: International Airshow Media Release August 7th 2013.

This event has been a huge drawcard for the region and whilst the news is certainly disappointing, it’s encumbent on us to acknowledge the huge financial and voluntary commitment by the respective Board Directors, Sponsors, Volunteers and Participants which provided such a huge and iconic regional drawcard over recent years.

Organising any major event is a daunting task but when you deal wholly & solely with multi-million dollar aircraft, aerobatics and other heart-pumping displays, the organisational tasks, costs and liability issues become monumental.

Congratulations to Wide Bay Australia and the other sponsors together with those who did the hard yards to try and make this an ongoing event and who I’m sure, went through some gut-wrenching times in coming to the decision to pull the pin. Your commitment is very much appreciated.

Perhaps there’s a major corporate entity out there which is looking for the opportunity to tag its name to a major international aeronautical event so that it can be revitalised?

Let’s hope so.
